Clinical Fellowship Programs

 

Bariatric Fellowship Program

Program Directors: Bestoun H. Ahmed, MD, FACS, FRCS, FICS, FICMS and Anita P. Courcoulas, MD, MPH, FACS  

This program is a combined clinical and clinical research fellowship, with heavy emphasis on the science and surgical management of morbid obesity. 

Breast Surgical Oncology

Program Director: Emilia J. Diego, MD

The Breast Surgery Oncology Division offers a one-year surgical fellowship designed to provide in-depth multidisciplinary training in the diagnostic evaluation, surgical management, and adjuvant care of breast cancer patients, in addition to the management of patients with benign breast disorders.

Endocrine Surgery

Program Director: Sally E. Carty, MD, FACS

The Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at UPMC is one of only 12 endocrine surgery fellowships in the United States.

HPB Surgery

The Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery currently offers two HPB fellowship positions a year

Pediatric Surgery

Program Director: Kevin P. Mollen, MD

The goal of the advanced residency training in Pediatric Surgery at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is to develop the specialized knowledge and skills required to care for surgical disease in infants and children.

Pediatric Surgery - International

Program Director: Kevin P. Mollen, MD

The fellow for the Pediatric Surgery International Fellowship at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is fully integrated into the Pediatric Surgery Training Program and functions as an additional fellow to the two ACGME approved trainees. 

Pediatric Surgical Critical Care

Program Director: Kelly Miller Austin, MD, MS, FACS, FAAP 

The overall goal of the advanced residency training in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care at the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is to provide advanced proficiency in the care and management of critically ill surgical patients ranging in age from extreme prematurity through adulthood, with emphasis on the pediatric surgical critical care patient. 

Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery

Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program Director: Christine M. Leeper, MD 

Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Program Directors: Jason Sperry, MD, MPH and Andrew B. Peitzman, MD

Training programs in surgical critical care and acute care surgery are under the auspices of both the Department of Surgery and the Department of Critical Care Medicine. The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship is accredited by the ACGME and the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship is accredited by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, only the third such program to be approved. 

Surgical Oncology

Program Director: Linwah Yip, MD

The University of Pittsburgh Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program is a Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-approved fellowship.

Transplantation Surgery

Program Director: Martin N. Wijkstrom, MD

The transplant fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh has been designed to provide a comprehensive experience in the pre- and post-operative care of the transplant patient. This broad exposure includes medical and surgical management in renal, pancreas, hepatic and intestinal transplantation.

Vascular Surgery

Program Director: Ulka Sachdev-Ost, MD 

The UPMC Division of Vascular Surgery has a successful ACGME-accredited two-year independent residency/fellowship program in vascular surgery.
