Department Faculty and Staff to Participate in Walk to End Pancreatic Cancer

Department faculty and staff joined the UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center Team to participate in PurpleStride 2017 on September 9, 2017 at the North Shore Riverfront Park-Great Lawn in Pittsburgh. The PurpleStride walk/run is the signature fundraising event of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, uniting over 80,000 people in more than 50 cities across the country annually.

Pancreatic cancer is a difficult disease to treat and cure. Although advances over the past five years, including better surgery, more effective chemotherapy, and combination strategies, are helping experts better treat the disease, there is still a long way to go. More research and national coordination are two critical elements needed to move forward and help more patients survive.

Amer H. Zureikat, MD, FACS was the UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center Team Captain and Honorary Co-Chair of PurpleStride 2017. UPMC Cancer Center was also a Gold Sponsor for the event.

The UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center Team raised over $6,000 for the cause. Photos of the team at the event can be viewed online
