Presenter: Elizabeth Pace, MD (mentor: Michael Morowitz, MD)

Dr. Pace I will discuss her ongoing clinical projects regarding antibiotic use in UPMC's pediatric patient populations. She will provide an update regarding the NICU Antibiotics and Outcomes (NANO) Trial, a multi-center RCT concerning empiric antibiotic administration to our preterm, low-birthweight infants. She will then discuss an ongoing collaboration, including results from a systematic literature review, concerning empiric antibiotic use in neonates with congenital cardiac defects prior to surgical interventions. Finally, Dr. Pace will discuss our work for the proposed PAINTER (Postoperative Antibiotics in Necrotizing Enterocolitis) Trial, including an updated scoping review of the literature and preliminary data from the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database regarding duration of postoperative antibiotics following surgery for NEC.
