Department of Surgery

Kareem Wasef, MD

  • General Surgery Resident (PGY-2)

Hometown

Morgantown, West Virginia.

Why I Chose the University of Pittsburgh

UPMC offered everything I could ask for in a surgical training program in a city I already loved and that is close to my hometown, family and friends. I knew UPMC was able to provide exposure during training to the breadth of general surgery and its subspecialty, offer endless research opportunities, and prepare me for a career as an academic surgeon while being surrounded by a technically, clinically, and intellectually gifted group of trainees and faculty all in a positive environment that I could consider a home for the next several years.

Non-Academic Interests/Accomplishments

I enjoy playing sports and outdoor activities. Some of my favorite sports right now are soccer, basketball, squash, and pickleball. I also really enjoy hiking and national parks- some of my favorite hikes were at Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, and also around my home state, WV.
