Research, Clinical, and/or Academic Interests

Dr. Wijkstrom's research has been focused on preclinical development of xenotransplantation, mostly in  islet and kidney models using cells and organs from genetically engineered pigs. His clinical interest is optimizing care for patients undergoing total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation. Other interests include assessing the impact of cold ischemia on short-term and long-term kidney allograft survival.
