Congratulations to our Senior Student Awardees!

Congratulations to our vascular surgery interns, Mary Binko and Marissa Jarosinski, who were recipients of the Senior Surgery awards for the Pitt Med graduating class of 2023. Mary Binko received the Doris B. Maxwell, MD, Prize for Outstanding Performance in Surgery presented to the senior woman medical student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in a surgical discipline. Marissa Jarosinksi received the Charles C.

Announcing the UPMC Center for Aortic Disease

UPMC announnces a new HVI Center of Excellence, the UPMC Center for Aortic Disease. The UPMC Center for Aortic Disease will be a multi-disciplinary collaboration between cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and cardiology led by Co-Directors Dr. Ibrahim Sultan, Dr. Michael Singh, and Dr. Arvind Hoskoppal. The UPMC Center for Aortic Disease brings together the experience, expertise, and compassion of UPMC physicians who collaborate to provide the best care for the specific needs of our patients.

Dr. Michael Singh Chosen by Poets & Quants as “Best and Brightest Executive MBA Student”

Congratulations to Michael J. Singh, MD, FACS, RPVI, who was selected by Poets & Quants as one of their “Best and Brightest Executive MBA students.” Dr. Singh will graduate from The University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business Executive MBA in Healthcare program in December 2022.

Dr. Edith Tzeng Research Team Wins 2022 Pain Challenge Award

Congratulations to the research team of Edith Tzeng, MD (principal investigator); Katherine Reitz, MD MScJoseph Meyer, MDKyle Markel, MD MSc; and Phil Empey, PharmD, PhD, who were awarded a $50,000 Virginia Kaufman Pain Research Challenge Award for their project “Easing the Pain of Peripheral Artery Disease.”

Dr. Eric Hager Appointed Advisory Dean in the School of Medicine

Congratulations to Eric S. Hager, MD, who has been appointed Advisory Dean in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, effective July 1, 2022. Advisory Deans provide support, advocacy, mentorship, and advice to Pitt medical students throughout all four years of their medical school education.

Congratulations to Lindsey M. Haga, MD, who was selected as a winner of UPMC’s Award for Commitment and Excellence in Service (ACES) for 2021. ACES recipients are recognized for being outstanding UPMC team members who embody the health system’s core values, exhibit excellence in and dedication to their work, and go above and beyond to serve our patients and communities. Each year, fewer than one percent of UPMC staff from across the health system receive this honor.
